Counselors and psychotherapists at Whitford-Thomas Group practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with specific focus drawn from rational theory and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT).
They have obtained specific, additional education in methods of REBT and have received direct instruction from Teaching Fellows of the Albert Ellis Institute, New York, N.Y. Albert Ellis Institute is a world center for mental health research, training, and clinical practice. The Institute is the source of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) which is the foundation of all cognitive-behavior approaches in use around the world today. In 1955 Dr. Albert Ellis developed REBT which is an action-oriented therapeutic approach that stimulates emotional growth by teaching people to replace their self-defeating thoughts, feelings and actions with new and more effective ones. Today Albert Ellis Institute is a world center of research, training, and practice of REBT, headed by its founder Dr. Albert Ellis who (at age 90) remains one of the most influential psychologists of our time, and has authored more than 70 books and 700 articles, all designed to help people overcome destructive, self-defeating emotions and improve their lives. Mr. Whitford and Dr. Thomas are both Associate Fellows and teaching faculty members of the Albert Ellis Institute. Learn more about Dr. Ellis and REBT at http://www.rebt.org/ The foremost principle of REBT, and that which we strongly adhere to at Whitford-Thomas Group, is that individuals have the ability to overcome most emotional upsets and neuroses if simply given the proper educational tools. Simply put, it is the common human condition that we (all of us) create our own emotions via our own thinking. Happy or sad, angry, excited, down-in-the-dumps, are very real emotions and feelings, but all are created by the individual’s thinking and perceptions not by someone else’s, or outside forces. Through the use of the principles of REBT we teach individuals that they are responsible for their own emotions and give them the power to change and overcome their unhealthy thoughts that interfere with their ability to function and enjoy life. There is no magic to overcoming life’s problems. And if you or someone you know experiences them, you’re acutely aware of the accompanying emotional and physical consequences. It doesn't have to be that way. Learn more here about our Counseling and Psychotherapy Services or Contact Us for more information. ![]() |
